Bike Scouts is a social platform for doing good! We are a community that thrives on creating inspiring and positive stories from the good we do together to promote sustainability, bicycle mobility, and a shared and equal resilience. The Bike Scouts community works as a network of support for doing good and serves as the only continuously-operating Volunteer Bicycle Messenger service for disaster response, serving as the “last mile access” and a genuinely-local “first line of response” for communities. The Bike Scouts community and platform is sustained by the work we do with partner companies that we help in “doing good where they do business.” We are a finalist of the global Safe Steps DTech Awards and part of the 1% worldwide selection for the Facebook Community Accelerator program. Bike Scouts is a part of the United Nations SDG partner platform, the UNOCHA Community of Practice in the Philippines, the UNDP’s “Mover Programme” for the youth, Ushahidi – an open source mapping platform for social activism, citizen journalism and geographic information, Flying Labs PH for UAV training, and Spain-based Fields Data for disaster data analysis and management. In the Philippines, we are a partner of the Rapid Emergency Telecommunications Team, Philippine Red Cross, and have worked with the Makati Business Club and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP).
Rape Hurts Foundation (RHF)
RHF uses a holistic approach to serve and reach out to our target groups. Experience has shown us that Gender Based Violence, Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery is caused while interlinked to economic dependency & household poverty, climate change in totality, illiteracy & poor education, unemployment or lack of opportunities and poor government structures & the corruption. RHF has created Safe Spaces, Platforms and Shelters for different Survivors of Gender Based Violence, Human Trafficking & Sex Slavery. We provide Emergency Rapid Response Support to Survivors, support Relocation of Survivors at Risk, and provide Legal Aid & Access to Justice, Documentation & Research on all cases of Gender Based Violence, Human Trafficking and Sex Slavery in Uganda. Safe Motherhood, Maternal Health support & Fighting Menstrual Poverty, Providing Leadership Training for Women & Girl. RHF’s Bukyerimba Vocational & Skilling Center opened its door in 2012, specifically targeting women, girl-child and young people, the students are acquiring skills in tailoring, Concrete Practice and Brick Laying, ICT, Carpentry, Crop & Animal Husbandry - Farming, Catering & Baking, Driving, Motor vehicle & Motorcycle Mechanics, Salon & Hair Dressing, Leather & Shoe Making, Welding and Metal Fabrication plus Art & Crafts. In Uganda, as in many other countries, the stresses of climate change are already being felt. But, perhaps surprisingly, the impact of climate change also exacerbates the risk of violence against women. In response RHF is implementing the access to Solar power project in the district of Kamuli in Busoga Eastern Uganda, promoting organic farming for income generation and food security, working with individual households and families to plant 19,500,000 native trees by 2035, and supporting and promoting Bee-farming. Recycling all plastic materials and repurposing items which could otherwise be dumped in water sources. Let the Birds Return and Sing Again is one of our newest projects intended to campaign against deforestation and use of chemicals/pesticides in farming, fishing etc. Since lack of Access to safe clean water fuels Vulnerability for Women and Children, we are implementing the WASH Project intended to provide safe clean water to 5 Million people in Busoga Eastern Uganda by 2030.
